The Pillars of DeFi Ecosystem: Security, Liquidity, and Transparency

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) has emerged as a revolutionary force in the financial sector, enabling permissionless access to financial services without intermediaries. As the DeFi ecosystem continues to expand, three foundational pillars—Security, Liquidity, and Transparency—determine its sustainability and adoption. Let’s delve into how these pillars shape DeFi’s future. Security: The Backbone of DeFi Security is paramount in DeFi, as the space is continuously targeted by hacks, exploits, and vulnerabilities. Unlike traditional finance, where institutions absorb security risks, DeFi relies on smart contracts and cryptographic protocols. Key aspects of DeFi security include: Smart Contract Audits: Regular audits by third-party security firms, such as CertiK and Quantstamp, help identify vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. Bug Bounties: Many DeFi projects incentivize ethical hackers to find and report security flaws, minimizing potential breaches. Decentralized Governance: ...

One Emerging Trend Could Give Solana an Edge Over Ethereum in the Battle for Layer-1 Dominance: Sygnum Bank

One “emerging trend” could potentially give Solana (SOL) an edge over Ethereum (ETH) in the war for smart contract supremacy, according to an Analysis from the digital asset banking group Sygnum. The bank acknowledges in a new report that Solana has some overstated volume metrics and only a small portion of Ethereum’s market share. Sygnum also notes that Solana’s transaction volumes are “overwhelmingly” based on memecoin issuance and trading. The bank argues, however, that traditional finance firms could give Solana the edge if they prioritize the Ethereum challenger as they launch tokenization platforms and stablecoins. “There have been indications recently that even conservative institutions may place greater emphasis on Solana’s scalability than on Ethereum’s greater stability and security. After PayPal added Solana a few months ago for stablecoin processing, a PayPal executive recently claimed at a Solana...

Basel Committee considers stablecoins less risky than Bitcoin

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) has proposed that stablecoins be considered less risky cryptocurrencies. According to the document, the BCBS proposes to change the criteria so that stablecoins can be considered less risky than fiat cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC). BCBS has so far taken a hard stance on cryptocurrency, recommending a maximum possible risk weight of 1,250% for publicly traded digital assets such as Bitcoin. This means banks must issue capital to match their risks. Banks are also not allowed to allocate more than 2% of their core capital to these riskier assets. However, cryptocurrencies with “effective stabilization mechanisms,” such as stablecoins , are eligible for “preferential Group 1b regulatory treatment.” This means that stablecoins could be subject to “capital requirements based on underlying risk weights as set out in the existing Basel standards framework,” instead of the more stringent requirements set for BTC and altcoins. ...

UK crypto regulation in focus as BOE targets stablecoins for 2024

In an ambitious move to position the U.K. as a front-runner in the cryptocurrency sector, the government and the Bank of England (BOE) are introducing sweeping regulations for stablecoins and digital currencies. The BOE’s strategy primarily focuses on regulating stablecoin s integral to payment systems by early 2024. This approach is driven by a belief that stablecoin s, typically linked to stable assets like the British pound, pose less risk to the financial system compared to other crypto currencies. Stablecoins: Is BUSD chomping away on USDC dominance?

Hình ảnh
Towards the end of September, the largest crypto exchange Binance de-listed all USD Coin [USDC], TrueUSD [TUSD], and Pax Dollar [USDP] denominated trading pairs. Right after that, it officially started auto-converting deposits into the exchange’s native stablecoin BUSD.  The said 1:1 conversion measure was taken to enhance liquidity and capital efficiency for the users. The delisting and conversion, however, impacted the market share of volume across all global exchanges .  A recent analysis from Kaiko revealed, USDC, as of now, has seen a considerable drop in market share for BTC vs. stablecoin transactions, falling from 2.79% to just .5%, which shows that Binance accounted for a majority of USDC volume on centralized exchanges. On the other hand, since the auto-conversion, BUSD’s global market share—when compared against USDT and USDC—has increased from ~20–21% to 26%.
