US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve audit now 172 days overdue

Donald Trump’s ordered audit of crypto assets intended for a Bitcoin Reserve and Digital Asset Stockpile is now overdue by 172 days.  The review, which was supposed to inspect the crypto holdings of various federal agencies, was due on April 5 after Trump issued his executive order.  However, there have been no announcements from the US Treasury site, or its Secretary Scott Bessent, the US “Crypto Czar” David Sacks, or even Trump himself that indicate a review has taken place.  Further detracting from hopes of a strategic crypto reserve, The Rage reported yesterday that the Treasury doesn’t have any such report and that it redirected The Rage to other agencies for information.  These include the IRS and its Criminal Investigations branch, Homeland Security Investigations, and the US Secret Service. After a search of likely publication locations and published reporting, Protos was unable to identify any public release of the promised audit .  US ...

The country was among the first to be included in the bloc’s landmark expansion plan. However, since accepting an invitation to join, Saudi Arabia has yet to fully become a part of the collective. Indeed, the country is set to extend zero reciprocal import duties on the goods amid its ongoing trade deal discussions, Bloomberg reports. The two countries are engaged in ongoing talks of a new trade deal following the United States’ imposition of 10% sweeping trade tariffs on all countries. Sam Bankman-Fried is sentenced to 25 years — but now what?

While some celebrated the 25-year sentence handed down to multi-billion dollar fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried, others suggested it was too harsh a punishment for a non-violent first-time offender. Whatever your view, it’s safe to say there was a collective sigh of relief from almost everyone involved when the crypto trial of the century came to a close. However, the sentence comes with some caveats and opportunities and it’s worth diving into exactly what we can expect to happen next. Appeals SBF has already made it clear that he doesn’t only believe the appeals process will grant him his freedom — he’s willing to stake his comfort and safety on it. As pointed out by Protos contributor David Z. Morris on X (formerly Twitter), SBF put forward a request to stay at New York’s infamous Metropolitan Detention Center to be closer to his legal team rather than being transferred to a prison to be nearer to his parents in California. The strategy is a bold one: less than 9% of ap...

Richard Durbin, Elizabeth Warren, and Tina Smith recently wrote to Fidelity Investments to reconsider offering its Bitcoin-linked retirement product. The three US senators’ letter addressed to CEO Abigail Johnson noted that the industry was full of “charismatic wunderkinds, opportunistic fraudsters, and self-proclaimed investment advisors” promoting financial products with “little to no transparency.” FTX Rained on Fidelity’s Parade The senators felt that “the ill-advised, deceptive, and potentially illegal actions” would bear a “direct impact” on the valuation of Bitcoin. Chalking out how the “implosion of FTX” unveiled the “serious problems” faced by the industry, the senators wrote, “ … we strongly urge Fidelity Investments to reconsider its decision to allow 401(k) plan sponsors to expose plan participants to Bitcoin.
